Welcome to our website. Shaffer Studio is a combined effort of Jane and Susan Shaffer. We have attempted to give a representative sample of our work here, but by no means all of it.
In 1985 Susan became the owner of a small jewelry store in Wisconsin and began both her adventure and education in jewelry, stones and styles. Although the jewelry store has been left behind, the love of gemstones and jewelry remains. Somewhere along the line, sister Jane joined in and together they studied gemstones, particularly colored stones and pearls, at the Gemological Institute of America. That was followed by learning silversmithing at Lill Street Art Center in Chicago and goldsmithing at the William Holland School in Georgia. Over the years they have developed a unique style based, in part, on their interest in the metaphysical properties of stones. Many of Susan’s designs are based on how the combination of gemstones can add qualities to your life through wearing them. Designs in metal are created through a variety of techniques. In addition to traditional forging and fabrication techniques, we love to explore new processes such as precious metal clay, corrugated metal and enameling. In addition, Susan has developed a unique line of jewelry called Bobanelli made from hand knit wire.
